The White Tower is the remainder of a medieval fortification in the Bergen district of the Bergen-Enkheim district of Frankfurt. The late Gothic defense tower was completed in 1472. It was part of the Bergens fortification, which was built in 1440 and belonged to the rulership of the County of Hanau-Münzenberg. The Berger fortification comprised two gate towers, three towers and five roundels. With the fortification of Bergen, the Hanau Counts wanted to secure their territory against the neighboring Free Imperial City of Frankfurt and its Landwehr, as Frankfurt and Hanau were fighting over claims to power. In the 19th century, the Berger fortifications were torn down, and the White Tower only narrowly escaped demolition.
