The Schwebheim herb growers now have the know-how to grow 54 different medicinal and culinary herbs on 100 hectares of land.

It all started about 350 years ago, when natural scientists became aware of the botanical diversity in Schwebheim's fields. Since then, interest in herbs has never waned. While they were once collected in the wild, from the 19th century onwards farmers began to professionally cultivate their fields with medicinal and culinary herbs: initially, in addition to marshmallow, valerian, angelica, tarragon and peppermint, this soon included lemon balm, parsnips and root parsley.
