                            Built probably around 1686, the building has been known as the "Schillerhaus" for generations. Friedrich Schiller was never the head of the house. He accepted an invitation from the then owner, Professor Johann Christian Ernesti, where he met his sponsor and later also his best friend Christian Gottfried Körner on July 1, 1785. The meeting began a change in Schiller's life and is said to have prompted him to write the "Ode to Joy".

                            After the Second World War, the two buildings were to be blown up, or at least partial destruction was ordered. So the tower was removed and all the windows were relocated, causing significant damage to the truss.

                            In 2009, the property got a new owner who carefully renovated the two houses, which had meanwhile become dilapidated, in close cooperation with the monument protection authority.

                            Today, guests are welcomed again in the Schillerhaus and Schillcafé. The historic building is one of the most popular destinations and event locations in the Leipzig Neuseenland.
