The destination of the cable car is the mountain village of Feldis, 800 m higher up, which lies on a sunny terrace with great views. Passengers can expect a spectacular cable car ride, especially on the first section of the route, during which they float up to 200 m above the Rhine meadows on a span of 1016 m and can enjoy an impressive panorama of the Domleschg or the Rhine valley. The cable car's external appearance is largely in its original condition from 1958, even the cabins and their running gear have survived the almost fifty years of operation! The builder of the cable car, Willi Habegger from Thun, has created a robust and long-lasting structure here. The first attempts to connect Feldis with a cable car date back to 1949. As with the Riddes - Isérables cable car, the aim was to provide the population with a winter-safe connection, but the expected frequencies were much lower than with the aforementioned cable car in Valais. Nevertheless, the Federal Council granted a concession at the request of the Federal Department of Post and Railways, but on the condition that the first project be resized. In 1950, consideration was also given to building a two-cable gondola cable car by the Karl Peter company from Batschuns (Vorarlberg) with four, and later possibly eight, cabins. After several changes to the operating concept and further concession applications and extensions, the project by Willi Habegger was finally agreed upon, which now envisaged a cable car, the approval of which took place on July 31, 1958, and which had been available to public transport since August 1, 1958. After 48 years of operation, the cable car had served its purpose and the cabins made their last scheduled journey on April 2, 2006. After the old system was demolished, the Inauen-Schätti company built a new cable car during the summer of 2006, which began scheduled operation on November 25, 2006.
