Traditionally, the names Krepel and Klarenbeek have been closely linked. Already in the first half of the 19th century, Johannes Krepel was the owner of a water-powered copper mill in Klarenbeek. In 1871, Everhardus Theodorus Jacobus Wilhelmus Krepel requested permission 'to be allowed to convert his copper factory, driven by water, located in Voorst district C no. 43, into a cigar box sawmill and to carry out everything that belongs to a cigar box sawmill'. When Everhardus Krepel took over the management of the company at the age of 25, the curtain fell on Klarenbeek's more than century-old, water-powered copper industry.

Since the middle of the 19th century, its existence has been threatened by the arrival of the steam engine. The emerging cigar industry and the fact that wood was easy to obtain in the area prompted him to start manufacturing cigar boxes. He did not need a 'new-fangled' steam engine; he continued to use the available water power.

Because Everhardus' son and successor Theodorus died in 1924 at the age of 46, his son Jan was still too young to take over the management of the company. From 1925 to 1946, the tradition of a Krepel being at the head was forced to be broken from 1925 to 1946.

However, during this period the company launched a new product on the market: in 1932 a separate department was established for the manufacture of plywood. Since 1941, the company has also manufactured clogs. After a number of years, the factory underwent a major expansion due to the arrival of a production line for making interior doors. Post-war housing construction offers better future prospects.

That this switch was the right decision is evident from the fact that today production consists of seventy percent (indoor) doors, and 30 percent of boxes.
