The church is consecrated to the Mother of God Maria as the patroness of Bavaria. As early as 776, Baierbrunn was mentioned in a document for the first time, and there was talk of a stone church. Around 1175 a church in honor of the Holy Apostle Peter is mentioned in the "Schäftlarner Traditions". After 1501 it was completely renewed; some of the building material probably came from the Baierbrunn Castle, which was destroyed in 1421. On May 17, 1632, in the middle of the Thirty Years' War, Swedish horsemen destroyed the village and the church. It took 54 years before a new building could begin in 1686. The Munich city mason master Martin Gunetzrhainer, who is also the site manager, provided the design. The tower did not get its present shape until 1702, and the church was inaugurated on June 23, 1709.
The main altar and pulpit date from this time. Until the new parish church was built at the end of the 1950s, the community was looked after by fathers from Schäftlarn monastery. Then the church is considered superfluous, and it also stands in the way of the flow of traffic on the thoroughfare, today's B 11. Committed Baierbrunn citizens prevent the proposed demolition. Today the village church, also called "Old Church", shines in new splendor.
