      When Emperor Maximilian II united the fiefdom of some monasteries and communities in the area of today's Prater into a closed, imperial hunting ground in 1560, the "Green Lusthaus", a hunting lodge, was built. In 1766, Emperor Josef II made public the Prater, which until then had been reserved exclusively for the court and the nobility. From 1781 to 1783, the Lusthaus was rebuilt on behalf of Joseph II by Isidore Canevale. Since that time, the Lusthaus has repeatedly been the scene of great festivities.
