Långe Erik was completed in 1845. When the lighthouse was first lit it was fitted with specular lenses and a predatory oil lantern. A kerosene lamp was installed in the 1880s and the Lux lamp in 1906. In the same year, the lantern was remodeled and a Barbier Bernard brand clockwork-driven rotating lens replaced the previous equipment. In the 1940s the lighthouse was electrified and in 1976 the lighthouse was fully automated. The lighthouse's large lens has been decommissioned and covered with a shield since the 1990s. It is replaced by a very small lighthouse on the railing of the lighthouse balcony. The lighthouse was modernized in 2010. The old clockwork with plumb bob, which used to drive the lens apparatus, is still in the tower.
