Count Walram IV of Nassau-Idstein, son of Count Adolf I of Nassau-Idstein, built the castle around 1390. He died on November 7, 1393, at the age of 40, before his son Adolf II of Nassau-Idstein had the castle completed that same year. He later pawned it to Count Henne von Reifenberg.

From 1439 onward, the castle continued to be mortgaged and used as a retirement home. A cellar account from 1549 proves that it was still inhabited and in good condition.

During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was partially destroyed and rendered uninhabitable. The property has been privately owned since 1984.

Wallrabenstein Castle, built by Count Walram of Nassau-Idstein and first mentioned in 1392, is strategically located at the foot of a hill that slopes steeply down into the Wörsbach Valley. The castle was the starting point for the entire settlement, whose fortifications were located here, and was frequently pawned after Walram's death, including to the Lords of Reifenberg.

A large section of the high shield wall with a circular lateral projection and the stump of a circular keep in the center of the wall has been preserved. To the northeast, a similar wall with a Gothic entrance gate extends, secured at the sides by a tall, hexagonal tower. Behind it are the remains of a multi-story residential building.
