The Zschonerbach rises on the northern edge of the Kesselsdorf industrial park and flows into the Elbe after eight kilometers. He has left a difference in altitude of 171 meters behind him. Today the Zschonergrund is a landscape protection area, some of which has the protection status of a flora-fauna-habitat area. The protected biotopes include, among others. Alluvial forests, near-natural stream sections, ravine forests and orchards. The "Wilde Zschone" meanders between steep rock faces in the upper reaches. The path to the Zschoner Mühle leads across the stream several times. The paths are narrow, partly unpaved and require a little more attention. In 1904/05 the Briesnitz Mountain Association began to expand this basic trail. Here we can also come across old syenodiorite quarries. Syenite stone is hard, can be polished and, in addition to being used as a building block, also served as a material for sculptors and stonemasons.
