The Maria Hilf Chapel on the Alb belongs to the district of Grünwinkel and to the parish of St. Josef of the Pastoral Care Unit Karlsruhe-Südwest. Mostly it is closed and not accessible to the public. The Maria Hilf Chapel, or simply Alb Chapel, has stood idyllically above the Alb for a hundred years. As early as 1713, the first wooden chapel was built on what was then the main street of Grünwinkel, which was replaced by the building that exists today in 1759. Until Grünwinkel received the emergency church of St. Josef in 1909, it was used liturgically, but then it actually just stood in the way, because the small train, the “Lobberle”, from Durmersheim to Karlsruhe had been running on Durmersheimer Straße since 1890. Councilor Robert Sinner, whose Catholic mother was a benefactor of the community, managed to save the chapel in 1913 by financing its relocation to the new location. The city is the owner and the Catholic community is responsible for its use. A corridor cross from 1792, which originally stood on the path to Daxlanden, was attached to the facade. The old altarpiece, which probably dates from the time the chapel was built, was stolen in 1977 and has not yet resurfaced. Currently only one print is inserted into the old altar.
