St. Martin's Church
St. Martin's Square is located in the oldest part of Chur, in the middle between the Upper and Lower Gates, and is therefore part of the historic inner-city north-south connection. The square is dominated by St. Martin's Church. The largest late Gothic complex in Graubünden was built after the city fire of 1464 by reusing parts of the Carolingian predecessor building. Since 1919, the church has had three stained glass windows by the artist Augusto Giacometti as a special decoration. The Martin's Fountain dates from 1716. Its basin is decorated with various signs of the zodiac. Apart from the shield holder and column, the fountain is in its original condition.

Reformed main church in the old town
The church of St. Martin was first mentioned as a royal church in 769; in 958 it was transferred to the diocese with further donations from King Otto I. In the Middle Ages, courts were held in front of the church and documents were issued in the vestibule. In the great fire of 1464, St. Martin was almost completely destroyed. Carolingian masonry with pilaster strips remained, still visible on the nave facade facing Kirchgasse. The reconstruction was carried out by the Upper Austrian master Stefan Klain. He immortalized his name and the year 1491 above the choir arch. The tower with guard's room and Renaissance hood was completed in 1534 and remained unchanged until 1889. Then it was given a neo-Gothic hood with pointed arch windows. Since the population did not like this, a new solution was sought. In 1918, the tower was given a pointed helmet as part of the overall renovation of the church. At the end of the renovation, the nave received the stained glass windows by Augusto Giacometti
