The pilgrimage church of St. Anton in Partenkirchen has been looked after by the Franciscans since 1934. The frescoes inside are among the most beautiful
Germany. Saint Anthony is shown as the great popular saint
and advocate in all human needs.
It is a special place that invites you to relax. The Way of the Cross which leads up the mountain to the church is absolutely worth mentioning.

St. Anton is a pilgrimage church above the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district of Partenkirchen. A Franciscan monastery has been attached to the church since 1935, which is currently inhabited by two brothers. The facility is a monument based on the Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973, the file number is D-1-80-117-272. The church is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. Since the 17th century, there has been a small Antonius chapel on the site of today's church, which was donated by cousins Jakob and Johann Lidl. In 1704, this chapel was replaced by a new building, which was inaugurated in 1708, in gratitude for the town being spared during the War of the Spanish Succession. Under Pastor Matthias Samweber, the church was expanded in the years 1734-36 with an oval extension. The area surrounding the facility was also redesigned during this period. So the onion tower, the priest's house and a grotto were built and laid out. The ceiling frescoes, which are considered to be the most beautiful and valuable frescoes of the 18th century in Bavaria, also date from this period. The frescoes are the only surviving dome painting by the South Tyrolean painter Johann Evangelist Holzer. The design for the church came from the late Baroque master builder Joseph Schmuzer from Wessobrunn, who had previously built the parish church of St. Martin in Garmisch.
The provincial chapter of the German Franciscan Province, to which the convent has belonged since 2010, decided in March 2019, in the course of concentrating the forces of the religious province, to promptly give up the monastery in Garmisch along with six other branches.

A beautiful little pilgrimage church that you have to work your way up to. Once you get there, you'll find a building with a walkway around the outside with countless memorial plaques for deceased and missing people. The last time I saw this in such large numbers was in Altötting. There's a little corner in the church where you can buy candles, cards, crosses or books on a trust basis.
