Settlement history
Eilenrode, the founding village of (Nien –kerken) Neuenkirchen, was mentioned for the first time in 1131 in a monastery charter from St. Georgenberg near Goslar with 2 ½ hooves of land.
When removing the cherry mountain behind the former watermill in Lüderode in August 1968, which supplied material for the dam of the Warne retention basin, the remains of the old Eilenrode settlement were found. According to the date of the shard, the settlement originated in the Carolingian period (9th century) and became desolate in the 13th - 14th centuries. According to Dr. Franz Niquet from the Landesmuseum Braunschweig, the settlement had an extension of 250 m in the west-east and 100 m in the north, south direction.
