The brick ponds

Geologists call the plain near Bonstetten-Wettswil train station the “glacial tongue basin”. The Bonstetters were once called “Turpen-Böckler”. This comes from the peat that was previously cut into the bull moss - also an heirloom from the Ice Age.
Today three graceful ponds, former brickworks, fit into the landscape and are used as spawning grounds.

At the western pond you can reach a small, hidden meadow with an old oak tree that dips its gnarled branches into the calm water via almost overgrown paths. The meadow is uncut and the old wooden cloakroom building from the former bathing area has now completely fallen apart. Two or three small fishing piers peer into the pond overgrown with reeds and water lilies.
According to a statement from the Wettswil municipal administration, all of the water bodies mentioned are now nature reserves and swimming is prohibited in all three brickworks ponds.
