The Speicherstadtmuseum documents the history of construction and use of the historic warehouse district in Hamburg. The Speicherstadtmuseum was opened in 1995 as a privately operated branch of the Museum der Arbeit, which belongs to the Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg. It emerged from the exhibition Speicherstadt - monument and place of work for 100 years, which was first shown in the summer of 1988 on the occasion of the centenary of the Speicherstadt and repeated in summer 1989 on the occasion of the 800th harbor birthday.
