The Château de l'Estriverie is an imposing historic residence dating back to the 13th century. Initially a fortified house surrounded by a moat, the current castle was rebuilt in 1630 by the Cottrel family. It is built of brick, limestone and sandstone, with slate roofs and a main courtyard accessible by a stone bridge. Classified as a historic monument in 1976, the site retains its turrets and outbuildings, as well as a chapel dedicated to Saint-Joseph. Today, the castle is still inhabited by the family of Yve de Bavay.

The Castle of Lestriverie (or l'Estriverie) is a castle in the Hainaut Lessenbos, part of Lessen in Belgium. The castle is located near the Akrenbos. The castle was built to defend the Debattenland (disputed area between the County of Flanders and the County of Hainaut); in 1324, the counts of Hainaut lent it to Gerard van Lestruve, who gave his name to the castle. It later came into the hands of the Hoste d'Ecaussinnes family and (from 1440) the Despretz de Quiévrain family. They built the fortified house (mentioned in 1454) on the site of the current castle. From 1483, the building came into the possession of the de Cottrel family for seven generations.

We are not sure about the time of construction of the first castle and keep of Bois-de-Lessines.
The current castle was built around 1630 on the foundations of the first castle.
Today, a drive lined with chestnut trees leads to the entrance to the main courtyard. Above the door is a rectangular blue stone bearing the arms of the de Cottrels with the date 1630 surrounded by a laurel band. It reads: “It’s my destiny Jenne de Cottrel 1630”.

The old fortress was restored by the famous de Cottrel family based on the plans of French castles of the time. You get there by a stone bridge thrown over a wide ditch. The old foundations remain and date from the 15th century. The facade, simple but imposing, is pierced by around twenty very high windows. The roof is covered with slates. Two turrets flanked by loopholes and small dormer windows placed at the ends give it majesty. The castle is still inhabited today by the family of Yve de Bavay.

The outbuildings and the castle farm as well as the Saint-Joseph chapel (located to the west, at the end of two roads) remarkably complete the site.
