The legendary customs office in Fehragut
For many years there was a small customs office at the entrance to the Felsbandweg under the Gantenstein, a destination that was formerly also used as a smuggler's path and is now a popular destination. Some time ago it was moved from a private property to a plot of land owned by the municipality of Mauren.
Since the national border is no longer constantly monitored by border guards due to the Schengen / Dublin Agreement with the EU, the customs office “retired” a few years ago. The controls by the border guards are now only carried out mainly and in the so-called back line. The border is no longer constantly monitored. Wind and weather have gnawed at the house over the decades.

The border guard P. C. remembers the rhythm of the four hours in the field: day and night, rain, snow and ice, customs officers' houses offered him and his comrades protection out in the field at the borders. The cottage in Fehragut is, as far as he knows, the last of its kind in our area.
