The hopping hare that you can find in the dunes at the end of the sea wall of Knokke is a bronze sculpture by Barry Flanagan. Although the official name is Hospitality, the hare is also called keuning van’t Zwin, Bugs Bunny or t' keun by the locals.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
For many years Flanagan used the hare as a starting point for formulating his ideas. The animal stands for freedom, independence, dynamism, fertility, strength and individuality. The hare and not the rabbit, which is more likely to be expected in this biotope, has stood for hospitality here since 1997 and that is certainly a concept in our seaside resort.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
The British Barry Flanagan was one of the most striking figures in post-war sculpture. His works can be understood by the broad segments of the population throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, Australia, ... Using a classical language of form, he dealt with themes such as the situation of the individual and the artist in society.
