    The path to the source of the Saale leads uphill for the last one and a half kilometers on a gravel forest path. This path is quite difficult to ride with a trekking bike and luggage. But you can then relax wonderfully on the plateau at the source of the Saale and start the “Saaleradweg” from there. 😉

        The Saalequelle, formerly also called Saalbrunnen, is the source of the Saale, a tributary of the Elbe and one of the four major Central European rivers that originate in the Fichtelgebirge (Saale, Eger, Naab and Main).

        It lies at the foot of the Großer Waldstein on the northwestern edge of the Fichtelgebirge, in the area of the municipality of Zell im Fichtelgebirge in the Hof district in Upper Franconia.
