The Immerather Maa

Picturesque
Just as picturesque as Immerath itself, Immerather Maar is only a few minutes' walk from the village.
It is designated as a nature reserve and FFH area and provides shelter for many animal and plant species and habitat.
Here, the visitor and hiking friend can enjoy a soothing calm and find himself in a picturesque idyll. Experience the maar as the seasons change, and marvel at the many faces in which nature shows up here.
The almost circular Maarkessel was built about 40,000 - 70,000 years ago. The maar itself forms a semicircle today.
It is the smallest and shallowest of all Eifelmaare and is located at an altitude of 368 m above sea level.
The surface is about 4 ha and it is filled with about 60 million liters of water.
The maximum depth was measured at 2.80 m, the average depth is 1.50 m.
The maar feeds on the surface and groundwater of the crater with a catchment area of 640,000 m².
