      Rauschenberg Castle, also called Rauschenberg Castle, is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle at around 324 m above sea level. NHN on a summit above the town of Rauschenberg in the Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf.
      The former building was built on an almost circular complex, but was bordered by an angular curtain wall. A keep, at least two main buildings (palas) and several small outbuildings were part of the core of the castle. After the destruction, only the remains of rubble cones from the keep, parts of the wall of a three-storey residential building with various remains of vaults and a barrel-vaulted cellar remained. There are no visible relics of the conversion to the castle.

        The castle Rauschenberg, built around 1100, was the property of the counts of Ziegenhain. After the expansion to the castle, the fief passed in 1450 to the landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse, who used the castle as a hunting lodge. 1623, the castle was attributed to a judicial decision Hesse-Darmstadt.

        The Thirty Years' War raged for five years, when chroniclers reported horrible atrocities of the soldiers. In 1627 Wenzel Hollar painted the view that Matthäus Merian handed down as the very last picture of the castle. He published it exactly in 1646, when the castle was razed to the ground.

        During renovation work in 1992 u.a. found valuable tile tiles, which were reconstructed in cooperation with a master potter and replicas were produced. These and other findings can be visited in the city museum (April to October from 14:00 to 17:00 clock every last Sunday of the month or by appointment Tel: 06425/564).
