If you are traveling on the GR65, you must make the small detour of about 2 km to visit Larressingle. The Gascons call this little place "Carcassonne du Gers". It is a fine example of the region's fortified villages. The place consists of several houses, the castle and the castle church. It is completely surrounded by an intact fortification wall and a moat.
Construction of Larrissingle began in 1286. It was there that the Abbots of Lectoure found a safe place. In the 16th century, however, the abbots got a new country seat. Larrissingle was meaningless after that and time still seems to have stood still. A beautiful, authentic example of the Middle Ages.
