        Built by the Austro-Hungarian army between 1909 and 1914, it was later renamed 'Fort San Sebastiano' (in German 'Werk San Sebastian'), after the nearby village, to avoid confusion with Fort Verle in military communications. Together with Fort Luserna, Fort Belvedere, Fort Sommo Alto, and Fort Dosso delle Somme, it constituted the first fortified line on the Folgaria Plateau, close to the border between the Empire and the Kingdom of Italy (today the border between Veneto and Trentino).

        It consisted of two buildings, connected by a corridor: the casemate block, where the soldiers were quartered, and the battery block, located at a safe distance. Surrounded by a deep moat and three bands of wire fences, it could resist in complete isolation for over thirty days, without food or ammunition supplies.

        At the outbreak of the conflict, it was immediately heavily bombarded by Italian batteries located near Fort Campomolon, which occupied a commanding position, as evidenced by the craters still visible today in the surrounding pastures. Between the two world wars, the roof was reduced to a pile of ruins by salvagers, sometimes using explosives, to extract the metal it contained.

        Despite significant restoration work, the fort is now largely unusable: some internal passages are open to visitors, some sections often filled with puddles due to water infiltration.
