The Paul Gerhardt Church is a Protestant church. It is named after the theologian and songwriter Paul Gerhardt, who served as archdeacon here from 1669 to 1676. The church belongs to the Evangelical Paul Gerhardt parish in Lübben in the Lower Lusatia church district of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. Guided tower ascents take place Monday & Thursday from 10:00 a.m.

The Paul Gerhardt Church is the most central church in the city of Lübben. You can visit and discover it as follows: Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday after the service until 12 p.m. The monument in front of it is intended to commemorate the man who gave the church its name. Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676) was a theologian and one of the most important hymn writers in the German language. From 1668 to 1676 he was the pastor of this church.

The Paul Gerhardt Church, which is a defining feature of Lübben's townscape, is located in the middle of the town centre as a late Gothic three-aisled warehouse, replacing the previous building, and has been standing directly on the market since the middle of the 16th century. In 1931, the town church of St. Nikolai was renamed the Paul Gerhardt Church.

The treasures include the main pieces of the altar, pulpit and baptismal font made of limestone from 1610, the portal with reliefs of important churchmen and the rich decoration with hymn verses and stained glass windows by well-known contemporaries of Paul Gerhardt. In front of the church stands the larger-than-life monument to the hymn writer who was omnipresent in Lübben in the Spreewald, created by Friedrich Pfannschmidt. When climbing up with the Lübben tower keeper, guests learn interesting facts about the eventful history of the church tower and enjoy a fantastic view of the town and its charming surroundings.
