The Stone Gate (in Croatian: Kamenita Vrata) is one of the symbols of Zagreb and one of the best-preserved sights in the old town. The gate was part of the fortress called Gradec and is the only remaining gate that leads into the city.
Steinernes Tor was built in the 13th century, but only got its present form in 1760. In the archway there is a chapel of grace with an image of the Virgin Mary, which is considered miraculous and which survived a fire in 1731. After the fire, a baroque style altar was built. In addition to this 18th century altar, there is also a medieval vault.
The gate was preserved, among other things, thanks to the brothers of the Croatian Dragon, whose main task is to preserve the Croatian cultural heritage and Croatian identity.
The Stone Gate can be reached from Radiceva Street, which starts at the main square.
