        Even today, the Maria Hilf chapel in Jöhlingen is a destination for pilgrims. It is idyllically situated between two wooded areas on the watershed between Jöhlingen and Wöschbach, above the Attental residential area. The "jewel" of the community bears the year 1733 and was built in honor of Maria. It was first mentioned in 1766 in a letter to the Bishop of Speyer. Just one year later, a hermitage was to be built next to the chapel. However, this request was rejected by the bishop. The cross to the left of the chapel was erected in 1783 by Anton Rüssel and Barbara Rüsselin. The pedestal reads: "The good shepherd gives his soul for his sheep". But 56 years later, the Jöhlingen parish and foundation council wrote a request to the bishop to be allowed to demolish the chapel. Another 18 years later, in 1857, Anna Maria Winteroll had another cross erected, this time to the right of the chapel. It reads "Christ was born for us, he was obedient unto death".
