The aircraft hangars were completed in 1918 shortly before the end of the First World War for what was then Friedrichsfelde Airport. Dome-shaped, self-supporting concrete roofs stretch over the walls. They are the first ever built and the only remaining hangars in Germany from the beginning of the 20th century of this type. The hangars were used militarily by the Hitler regime and later by the garrison of the Soviet and later the CIS armed forces.
The buildings are to be converted for residential purposes, as has already been done with the buildings of the former pioneer school in today's garden city of Karlshorst. The development plan envisages two-storey residential extensions and loft apartments in each hall. The roof domes are to be retained.
