Beautiful island with castle and castle park. A visit is highly recommended. The "Alte Schlossbrauerei" is located on the castle island. Here you can stop and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.

The Mirow Castle Island was founded on a commandery of the Order of St. John in the 13th century. After protracted confrontations with the Lord Masters of Sonnenburg, the Mecklenburg dukes gained influence over the appointment of the commander during the 16th century. After the death of the last Mirow commander, the commander's office was finally only looked after by Protestant administrators, most of whom came from the Mecklenburg ducal family and took up their princely residence here in the manor house of the commander's office. The Commandery was secularized in 1648. The buildings on the palace island were constantly being built during this period.

With the Hamburg settlement of 1701, Mirow became a founding part of the newly formed (partial) duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The Mirow properties owned by the princes were used as a widow's residence after the death of Adolf Friedrich II. The ducal office in Mirow repeatedly had to provide for members of the princely family.

After a major fire in 1742, large parts of the building stock were renovated. At that time, the Mirower Hof had briefly developed into a spiritual and intellectual center of the country, despite or perhaps because of its remoteness. Many important personalities, who later in the second half of the century gave decisive impetus to regional developments, belonged to the Mirow court society around the middle of the century.

Since the 1750s, Mirow has lost importance again just as quickly as the rise. From the middle of the 18th century, the role of the Mirow Castle Ensemble was almost exclusively limited to the befitting of funeral ceremonies for members of the ducal family. "Mirow is now the site of the dead," said a travel writer shortly before the First World War.
