The Castello di Udine is a 16th-century castle on a hill in the city center of Udine in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The castle is located at a height of 121 meters on the Salita al Castello. It houses the Municipal Museum, which consists of a picture gallery, the archaeological department, the numismatic department, the Museum of the Risorgimento, a gallery of drawings and printed matter and the Photography Museum of Friuli.

The origin of the castle hill, a substantial elevation in the middle of the Friuli plain, was until recently thought to be an accumulation of rubble over the centuries. But there is a legend that has been passed down for centuries about its origins: it is said that when Attila sacked Aquileia, then one of the largest cities in the Roman Empire, in 452, he ordered his soldiers to raise a hill so that he could witness the spectacle could observe from Udine. So the helmets of all the soldiers were filled with earth and everyone was brought to a place in the middle of the citadel. This is how the hill that dominates the city today was created.
