As early as 1186, the house was mentioned as Villa Visbeck as a fiefdom in the land registry of Werden Monastery. Since 1338, the Lords of Visbeck had owned the complex, which was now used as a manor - a fortified building on two islands. The Lords of Visbeck family died out in 1540 and the buildings found other owners, most recently the Droste zu Vischering family, who owned it until the 20th century.
The Lady Chapel[1] dates from the 18th century and is therefore significantly younger than the Visbeck house itself. Its builder was Johann Conrad Schlaun.
Today Haus Visbeck is privately owned and is used for horse breeding and partly as a holiday apartment.

The Visbeck chapel belongs to a former manor and is very well preserved. The small but nice Christmas market with really nice stalls is recommended. Unfortunately, it will be canceled in 2020 due to the corona pandemic.
