FRIESOYTHE For a long time nobody knew exactly what would happen to the old water mill in Friesoythe. But in the spring of 1997 – after being vacant for more than 14 years – the Friesoythe mill association concluded a long-term lease agreement with the city of Friesoythe and began to renovate the building and transform it into a cultural meeting place.

As early as 1999, the first major events could be held in the "Alte Wassermühle" cultural center. In a final construction phase, water wheels were installed again in May 2004. The water mill is known beyond the city limits, not least because an information center for renewable energies was set up.
