Before World War II, Hitler had the Siegfried Line built on the western border with France. The facility was planned from 1936 and built between 1938 and 1940. The air defense zone (LVZ), to which the bunkers in St. Wendeler Land belonged, was set up about 40 km behind the actual Siegfried Line. They essentially consisted of concreted air defense positions. The weapons used there should force an approaching enemy to a greater height, whereby they should increase its fuel consumption and reduce its radius of action at the same time. On the west side of the Bosenberg there were 5 bunkers, all of which apart from the water bunker, which is still visible today, were blown up. Source: Text information board

It grew into an important training center and later developed into a retirement home for returning missionaries. The large mission house church was built in 1910. The nearby Wendelinushof served the order with gardening and agriculture for a long time as an economic basis.
