Vieux Lyon is the medieval and Renaissance district of Lyon. It is located on the edge of the Saône, at the foot of the hill of Fourvière on the right bank of the Saône. The whole of Old Lyon extends at the bottom of the Fourvière hill, over thirty hectares. Old Lyon has three districts: Saint-Jean, Saint-Georges, Saint-Paul:
Saint-Jean is the best known district, with the Saint-Jean cathedral. It is also the most touristic district of Old Lyon. Its main artery is rue Saint-Jean, crossing the district to the Saint-Paul district. It has many architectural curiosities, in particular the traboules. You will find very beautiful inner courtyards, often unsuspected and retaining their medieval characteristics. Mainly pedestrian district, it allows pleasant walks. It is in this district that the Gadagne ensemble is located, place du petit Collège.
