    The historic Wesel railway bridge was built between 1872 and 1874 and was the northernmost Rhine bridge in Germany during its existence. It's definitely worth a look to the right.

      The 1950 meter long railway bridge was opened on December 31, 1874. At that time it was the longest bridge in Germany. In 1881 the Büderich station was put into operation on the Wesel - Venlo line, where the Boxteler Bahn trains stopped a year later. The boundary stone '0' of the almost 100 kilometer long Wesel - Boxtel railway line stood very close to the train station. In 1926 and 1927 the arched bridge over the Rhine was replaced by a new box bridge with only one pillar to widen the passage for shipping. At the same time, the bridge was adapted for higher train weights. At the end of the Second World War, this railway bridge was the last connection over the Rhine that was under German control. On the morning of March 10, 1945, the bridge was blown up by German pioneers to prevent the Allies from advancing. The railway bridge was not rebuilt after the war because there was a lack of international connections and passenger and freight traffic increasingly shifted from rail to road. In 1968 the pillar in the middle of the river was removed. The old viaducts are now protected as a monument and are reminiscent of the imposing bridge construction.
