The landmark of Bad Frankenhausen was structurally completed in 1975. The residents immediately took it into their hearts and affectionately named it the “elephant toilet”.
After stretching the approximately 1.1 t canvas, a Soviet team of specialists gave the canvas a primer using an old Russian secret recipe.
Tübke now began to paint the interior. It took him around 11 years (1976 - 1987). The picture is quite large at 1722 m² and has no beginning or end or left or right.

The huge circular painting and the realistic depiction of the scenes create an immersive experience that makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the action. The information on the history and background of the events depicted is well presented and provides a deeper understanding. A visit to the Panorama Museum is a cultural enrichment and an unforgettable experience for all of our club friends. We were guided through the history of the painting with an audio guide.
