    On the opposite bank of the Lesse River, the "Aiguilles de Chaleux"—the Needles of Chaleux—rise steeply into the sky. This dramatic limestone cliff is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and beautiful rock formations in all of Belgium.

      These rocks are on the right bank of the Lesse, in the concave part of a meander, between the villages of Furfooz and Walzin belonging to the municipality of Dinant. But the best view of these rocks is on the opposite bank of the Lesse at the hamlet of Chaleux located north of the village of Hulsonniaux.

      The term needles comes from the typical shape of several gray and white Condroz limestone rock points dating from the Tournaisian and Viséen (between 330 and 358 million years ago) forming narrow ridges like the one called Le Chanbiru. The base of these vertical rocks is directly bordered by the Lesse. The Aiguilles de Chaleux are the western part of a natural cirque, the Cirque de Chaleux, whose summit reaches an altitude of 210 m or about 110 m above the level of the river and is accessible from the village of Furfooz.

      The entire site is included on the list of classified real estate heritage of Houyet in the two decrees of April 4, 1939 and October 29, 1981 as well as on the list of exceptional heritage of the Walloon Region since 2009. These rocks are also included as a site of great biological interest.
