The history of the “Felsengrund” and “Friedensburg” guest houses has been closely linked to the Christian faith and the deaconry “Neuvandsburg” in Elbingerrode (Harz) and “Zion” in Aue (Erzgebirge) for over 100 years.

The "Haus Felsengrund" was run by Miss von Koschembahr and Miss Petzold as a Christian rest home for a number of years before the First World War.

In 1920, a large number of the deaconesses of the mother house in the former West Prussian Vandsburg were forced to look for a new home because of the shifted borders after the end of the war. The two Rathen women then made their houses, which also included a large area with an estate and agriculture, available to the sisters.

Even in the difficult times of the Nazi regime and the GDR, the sisterhood in Rathen remained active. A housekeeping school was founded in 1921, later the house was used as a children's and maternity home, during the war as a hospital, then as a retirement home and to this day as a Christian rest house.
The last deaconesses from the mother house "Neuvandsburg" in Elbingerode were Sister Gerda Siegfried (management) and Sister Beate Moosdorf (housekeeping). You ran Haus Felsengrund until October 2010.

Then the community deaconess mother house "Hensoltshöhe" in Gunzenhausen (near Ansbach) took over the sponsorship of the house Felsengrund. Like the parent company "Neuvandsburg" it belonged to the DGD (German Community Diakonie Association e.V. based in Marburg / Lahn). On behalf of the new owner, Robert & Tabea Andörfer took over the management of the house on October 24, 2010.
