Because the Imperial Palace has excellent acoustics, concerts are often held there. Another interesting fact is that a spring can be found beneath the Imperial Palace.

Stone Carolingian and Ottonian-Salian imperial palace of the (prince) bishopric of Paderborn, located on the north side of the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral.
Palaces were fortified places that were regularly visited by the ruler (the medieval kings did not rule from a fixed location, but traveled around the empire) and were provided with adequate structural equipment, usually in the form of representative residential buildings with a hall. In Paderborn, the palace covers roughly the area around the cathedral today.

In its current form, the Cathedral of St. Mary, St. Liborius and St. Kilian is essentially a creation of the 13th century, with parts of the previous buildings from the 11th and 12th centuries being incorporated into the successor building. Later additions and alterations, especially the Baroque style in the 17th century, have not significantly changed the overall Gothic impression.

The three-aisled hall church, which is over 100 meters long, has two transepts and a hall crypt that extends to the crossing. The enormous west tower (13th century, the high helmet with four decorative turrets dates from the 19th century) is 93 meters high. According to recent findings, the two round stair towers flanking the west tower also date from the 13th century. Kunigunde, wife of Henry II, was crowned queen in the predecessor building of the Meinwerk Cathedral in 1002.

The crypt, which is 32 metres long and over 12 metres wide and is one of the largest in Germany, contains the relics of St. Liborius (patron saint of the archbishopric and the city). From here you can access the bishop's crypt, which was newly built in 1935.

          Special sights:
Paradise portal (before 1240), Pieta (around 1380), Gothic high altar (late 15th century), double Madonna (around 1480), monumental tomb of Prince-Bishop Dietrich IV of Fürstenberg (d. 1618), pulpit in the Régence style (1736).

On the gable wall of the south-eastern transept we find two relief friezes: scenes from the life of Jesus, including the foolish and the wise virgins. In the cloister (visible from the chapter cemetery) is the famous rabbit window from the 16th century ("there are three rabbits and three spoons, and yet every rabbit has two").
Under the floor in the north-eastern part of today's cathedral, archaeologists discovered parts of the foundations of a 45-meter-long and 22-meter-wide basilica in 1979/80, which belonged to Charlemagne's palace.

The traditional weekly market at the cathedral is on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and in the last week of July there is the Patrionat festival in honor of St. Liborius, the largest religious and secular festival in OWL. On the 1st Saturday of the Libori week you can experience goosebumps during the ceremonial suspension of the Libotischreins with the famous Liboritusch in the cathedral, the organ playing escalates to a hurricane, all registers are pulled, then suddenly a few seconds of dead silence, the reverberation falls silent and all of a sudden the 30 Fanfare the Libor ritush. To experience this, you should be at the cathedral early.

The cathedral church of the Archdiocese of Paderborn, the High Cathedral, which is dedicated to the three saints Mary, Liborius and Kilian, dominates the townscape of Paderborn. Its striking, 93-meter-high west tower above the choir, which is flanked by two round towers, is predominantly in late Romanesque and Gothic forms. The current cathedral dates mainly from the 13th century. Around 1210, work began on almost completely replacing the 104-meter-long church building with a three-aisled hall church.

It has stood in the heart of the city for over 950 years - the High Cathedral of Paderborn. It is already the fourth cathedral on this site, all previous buildings have been destroyed in the course of the diocese's history. When Bishop Imad had the Paderborn Cathedral consecrated in 1068 after only ten years of construction, he thereby determined the shape of the current cathedral floor plan. The double-choir basilica with wide side aisles and two transepts is still a defining feature of the townscape today.

Even if only a few stones of the former Imad Cathedral remain after further warlike destruction, today's Paderborn Cathedral clearly shows its size and structure. It is dedicated to the three saints Mary (mother of Jesus), Kilian and Liborius of Le Mans. At the same time, Saint Liborius is also the patron of the city of Paderborn and the entire archdiocese.
