Vista Point offers a beautiful view of Mono Lake. A vast inland sea, the lake fills a natural basin that is over 70 square miles in size. Mono Lake's most distinctive feature is its tufa towers - mineral structures formed when freshwater springs bubble up through the lake's alkaline waters. The vista point is a few yards up the little hill road. In winter/spring and fall this is the only open store for food in the area, even in summer probably the most accessible place to resupply from the PCT other than the overpriced options around Touloumne Meadows. It's easy to catch a ride down here with a tourist and back up.
