Although its height (2539 m) is not very significant, important activities took place on this peak during the First World War. In particular, the Italians barricaded themselves on this small peak, facing the Austro-Hungarian troops on top of the nearby Toblin Tower, on which they had even hoisted a mortar.

At the southern foot of the peak, near the current Locatelli-Innerkofler hut, you can still see all the various tunnels dug by the Italian troops to be able to protect themselves from enemy fire.

While the overall Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop trail might be intermediate, the ascent to Sasso di Sesto itself is often described as a rewarding addition that can be challenging due to its incline. Hikers should be prepared for mountain terrain.

Are dogs allowed on trails around Sasso di Sesto and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area?

Generally, dogs are permitted on trails in the Dolomites, including the Tre Cime Natural Park, but they must be kept on a leash. The WWI caves and bunkers are located on Sasso di Sesto itself, particularly at the southern foot of the peak, near the current Rifugio Locatelli (Dreizinnenhütte).
