Cergy-Pontoise Major Axis

The Major Axis is a monumental work located in Cergy, in the Val-d'Oise department, in France. It is part of a loop of the Oise, in the center of the new town of Cergy-Pontoise.

The Major Axis lies at the border between sculpture, landscape, town planning and architecture. Located in Cergy-Pontoise, the Major Axis marks the meeting between a strong desire for development of the City expressed at the dawn of the 21st century, the artistic intervention of Dani Karavan, and an exceptional landscape of the Ile-de -France. A work of multiple dimensions, the Major Axis is readily linked to the history of major urban routes.

The Major Axis can be visited freely, all year round. Hikers, local residents, tourists, athletes, artists... meet there at different times of the day. You have to travel through its twelve stations to understand the meaning of this unique testimony of public art, which projects the gaze towards Paris, beyond the loops of the Oise.
