The southern mill, which defines the townscape of Meldorf from afar.
Not only the tower of the cathedral characterizes the cityscape of Meldorf, but also two well-preserved windmills. The Südermühle can already be seen in a depiction by Daniel Friese from the 1550 / 60s. Since the mill was founded, there has been evidence of a lively change of ownership that is difficult to reconstruct.

In 1819 the old post mill was demolished and replaced by a Dutchman on the Mühlenberg. On May 27th, 1826 it burned down due to a lightning strike. The third Südermühle was built in the same year. On January 1st, 1892, it burned down for unknown reasons. As early as August 1892, mill builder Jürgen Hinrich Suhr built the new Galerieholländer, which he himself acquired from a forced auction in 1897. In 1900 he sold the mill to Hinrich Daniel Friederich, who had an additional engine house built in 1905.

Müller Friederich died in 1941. His heirs were forced to close down and sell in 1956. The machines were sold and parts of the mill hill were removed. The rooms were used as storage by a fittings factory. In 1969 the wing cross was restored because of its external appearance. In 1984 the Penners bought the dilapidated property and invested a lot of time and money in the renovation. A restaurant with a wine bar has been located in the former warehouse since 1989. The mill is also used by the owners as an apartment.

On the site of the current location, a picture from 1550 shows a mill that was called "Bocksmühle". It burned down and rebuilt several times in the following centuries and was sold and closed in 1956. In 1984 the area was acquired by a private person who renovated part of the mill as a restaurant in 1989 and still operates it today. The other area, especially the mill building itself is the owner's living area. The mill is not open to the public.
