In earlier times, the Lietzensee still had a small bathing establishment. However, swimming is now no longer possible. Unfortunately, there are no flat shore areas. Instead, you can enjoy the view of the lake from one of the numerous sunbathing areas.

In the 1820s, General von Witzleben acquired the area around the Lietzensee and had a large park and country house laid out on the west side. After his death in 1840, a cabinet order gave him the name Park Witzleben. In the same year the family sold the property. It was acquired in 1899 by the Park Witzleben terrain company, which had the public Lietzensee Park laid out. With the extension of Kantstraße and the associated embankment of a dam in 1904, the lake and park were divided into two. In 1906 the park was redesigned by Toebelmann and Brettschneider. Finally, in 1910, the city of Charlottenburg bought the Lietzensee and the park. In 1912-13, Erwin Barth and Heinrich Seeling built the Lietzensee Cascades on Dernburgplatz and Wundtstrasse. After the First World War, 1919-1922, Erwin Barth redesigned the park, partly in regular structures, into a landscape park. Originally, the edges of the banks were bordered with perennials, later lawns were laid out.

The park ranger's house was built by Rudolf Walter in 1924-25. After the park was severely damaged during the war, it was restored in the 1950s. In 1954, a pedestrian tunnel under the Lietzensee bridge connected the two parts of the park. A large children's playground was created in front of the park ranger's house. The café built in 1924 on the northern side of the lake fell victim to an arson attack in 1973 and was temporarily replaced. It was demolished and replaced by a new building, which opened on June 8th, 2009 as the Stella boathouse on the Lietzensee.

Although located in the middle of Charlottenburg, the Lietzensee is a quiet and beautiful place to stay.
