Very beautiful castle complex, currently the entrance fee is two euros per person. I think the price is reasonable as the castle is very well maintained. Very interesting and a great view.

The Rechberg and the castle Hohenrechberg

The Rechberg (707 m above sea level) is one of the three Kaiser mountains and is located near the center of Schwäbisch Gmünd. The eponymous castle was first mentioned in 1179. She was the ancestral seat of the Swabian noble family of Rechberg. At the foot of the Rechsberg is the resort of the same name. Rechberg is a district of Schwäbisch Gmünd and the pilgrimage church has been the destination of pilgrims since the 15th century.
The most famous art historical property is the ruin Hohenrechberg. Until 1986, the castle was in the hands of the Counts of Rechberg. This noble family is already mentioned under Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa. A first fortification was built here already in Roman times, the castle Hohenrechberg is mentioned in 1322 in documents.
Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and conquered several times. It was not destroyed. In 1865, a lightning strike caused a big fire and the castle became a ruin.
On the summit of the mountain is the pilgrimage church of St. Maria Hohenrechberg. The baroque church was commissioned by Count Bernhard Bero and was completed between 1686 and 1688 by master builder Valerian Brenner. A showpiece inside the church is the altar with a 14th-century Marian figure.
You want to explore the Rechberg on foot? From Hölltal in Schwäbisch Gmünd it is 5 km to the top of the Rechberg. On this geological trail almost 400 meters of altitude need to be overcome. On 24 information boards you will be given information about the different layers of rock.
From the castle ruins Hohenrechberg leads a Way of the Cross up to the pilgrimage church. Parking is available below the castle.
