The history of Burgfarrnbach Castle goes back to the 14th century, when a noble family first settled in Fürth. In the post-war period the castle served as a refugee camp. The city of Fürth later bought the castle and had it renovated to accommodate the city archive and the scientific library, which today comprises more than 35,000 volumes.
