"... Somewhat away from the residential areas in Hochdahl stands the Bayer Villa in the middle of a green oasis. When the councilor Artur Meckel from Wuppertal had this magnificent building built in 1899, he demonstrated a sophisticated taste. Because he still had one from here unobstructed view of the Rhenish plain, where the chemical company Bayer was based in Leverkusen and where the world-famous pain reliever “Aspirin” came onto the market just in the same year (the Bavarian cross was only erected in 1933 as a symbol that could be seen from afar). Certainly another reason for the change of ownership a few years later, because the “Falkenberg House” was acquired in 1910 by the secret councilor Friedrich Bayer, son of the co-founder of the Bayer works.

The family used the villa as a summer home. Every year on May 1st, people moved here with sacks and bags from Elberfeld (later from Leverkusen); at the beginning of autumn the family returned to their townhouse.

While Dr. Richard Bayer transferred the entire property to the Hochdahl development company in the early 1960s. Most recently, around 100 hectares comprised the forest and arable land reaching up to the Hilden city forest. ... "
