    Cycling east from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg to Leer along the Ems via the dyke route, after almost five kilometers you reach the place Mitling-Mark, which was first mentioned in documents in 1436. It is an invigorating feeling when, after a bend in the river, you see the Mitling-Marker mill from 1843 for the first time in a broad panorama of the dyke and marshland. The surrounding old buildings as well as the overall atmosphere of the picturesque village give the location of this one-story gallery Dutchman with codend and louvered wings a very special charm. There was a post mill here as early as the 17th century, which can still be admired in Papenburg on the “Wiek”.

    The restoration of the Mitling-Marker mill testifies to loving thoroughness. Not far from the mill in the village is the Fährhaus inn with a terrace (komoot.de/highlight/495275), where you can take a break with coffee and cake or a full meal.

        From Leer in the direction of Ihrhove along the railway and then on through the Hammrich to Mitling Mark (the section on the dike is partially closed due to the Friesenbrücke bridge construction site).
