The Langenberger Forst is the largest forest area in North Friesland with approx. 1000 hectares. Here you can hike a couple of decent km or cycle through it. Numerous small highlights, such as the fish ponds, a long stretch of the historic western part of the Ochsenweg, the Rantzaushöhe and a game reserve (right at the Lecker Chaussee car park) make the Langenberger Forest a varied and popular excursion and recreational area. Riding and hiking trails of different lengths are signposted. Numerous pavilions, benches and tables invite you to rest.
A beautiful forest, which is also accordingly well attended. You are not on your own here. But since the area is relatively large, the "rush of visitors" gets lost. ;O)
A beautiful stretch of the western part of the historic Ochsenweg runs through the Langenberger Forest. This old drift path was used by the ox drivers to drive the cattle from Denmark to Husum to the cattle market. On the way there were numerous jugs that served as places to stay. For centuries the oxen "trampled" a deep ravine into the Geest. It is very easy to recognize from the rather high "banks" to the left and right of the path.
There is also an eastern part of the Ochsenweg, which led from Viborg in Denmark to Wedel on the Elbe and is now a popular long-distance cycle and hiking trail.
