Stammersdorf, on the slope of the Bisamberg
Stammersdorf (21st), on the slope of the Bisamberg towards the Marchfeld, formerly a Lower Austrian village that was incorporated into the 21st district (Floridsdorf) in 1938. Today Stammersdorf is a cadastral community.
The village (originally a lentils village) was first mentioned in 1177/1785; the oldest names are Stenmarsdorf, Staemerstorf, Staemlesdorf, Steimarsdorf and Stamleinsdorf or (1203) Stoumarsdorf (derived from the Slavic personal name Stojmir). The "upper town" developed on the slope, the "lower town" around the lens-shaped village green. In 1469 the Schottenstift received the St. Nicholas Chapel and in 1470 acquired today's vicarage. In 1477, the Hungarians under Matthias Corvinus devastated the town, in 1529 the Turks set fire to almost all the houses, and in 1540 Stammersdorf may have become an independent parish (officially only in 1544 was the enfeoffment of the Schottenstift).
In 1619/1620, the Bohemians under Count Thurn pitched a camp in Stammersdorf and devastated the town before they left. In 1644, Stammersdorf was severely affected by a conflagration. In 1645, the Swedish general Leonhard Torstensson set up his headquarters in Stammersdorf; In 1654, but especially in 1679, the plague swept away numerous residents; In 1683 the Turks devastated the country, in 1703 the Kuruzzi stormed against Stammersdorf. Due to the plague epidemic in 1713, Stammersdorf was largely depopulated.
A few old buildings and farmhouses with gables have survived in the townscape. The Stammersdorf church is located on a hill above the Angers. In the 18th century, court hunts took place in the Stammersorf forests. In 1805 and 1809 Austrian troops (under Field Marshal Hiller) were in a camp near Stammersdorf; on December 27, 1805, Archduke Carl met Napoleon in the k. k. Jägerhaus von Stammersdorf (rendezvous; a post office was located here). In the 1930s, Stammersdorf experienced a rapid upswing, which was evidently caused by strong influx. In 1866 the Stammersdorf quarters had to accept. From 1876, a trolley ran from Stammersdorf to Leopoldstadt, on June 7, 1886 the steam tramway from Vienna via Floridsdorf to Stammersdorf was opened (electrification 1912); In 1877 the "voluntary fire brigade" was founded, in 1884 the decision was made to use kerosene lamps for street lighting (in 1899 those using gas lanterns) and on October 23, 1895 the district court in Floridsdorf was created, which was also responsible for Stammersdorf. The Stammersdorf Central Cemetery was opened in 1903.
In 1928, Stammersdorf was raised to a market town; the streets were named that year and numbered consecutively.
